Thoughts and Prayers

On the shadowed walk to work
spirits linger a red glitter square
gets larger by grey curb the scuffed
foil unpierced holds its halo

Its owner prayed for salvation
wandering the earth in limbo
at the devil’s hour giving up
hopes of holy union flung

The packet pressed and curled
spermicide sealed inside no head
for it to rest stamped fresh
reflecting aurilia out of sight

I hold my hands and bow
pray for those with venial sin
I walk in widdershins my ritual
complete outside the orthodox
my only purgation is the dawn
